EAN 2022: Guidelines for Abstract Submission
- Abstracts must be submitted via an active MyEAN profile. Abstracts submitted via fax or email will not be accepted.
- Affiliations of all co-authors must be stated. By completing abstract submission, submitters give full consent on behalf of all co-authors to provide their data.
- Abstracts must be submitted and presented in English (UK). Proofread your abstract before submission.
- Abstracts must contain new and original information, not published elsewhere prior to 24 June 2022, 18:30 CEST. See Embargo Policy.
- Abstracts must be structured under the given headings:
- Introduction - State specific objective of study
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusion
- Disclosures - In the interest of transparency, disclose all relationships/activities/interests related to your manuscript
- All abbreviations used must be written out at first use.
- Simplify complex mathematical formulas. Avoid symbols (Greek, mathematical, etc.). E.g. Instead of IFN-ß, use IFN-beta; instead of 10², use 10^2; instead of x≥2, use x>=2.
- A maximum of 3 images can be inserted per abstract. The maximum file size and resolution is 2 MB and 300dpi per figure. Images can only be submitted in JPG or PNG format. The EAN may adjust tables or figures to fit files for final publication. Tables must be submitted as a separate graphic file. Tables and images do not affect word count.
- Abstract titles may contain a maximum of 25 words and 120 characters. Abstract text cannot exceed 250 words in total and 1500 characters per section.
- Authors must indicate preference of presentation type: onsite oral, virtual oral, or poster. The Programme Committee will decide presentation type upon review.
- Presenting authors must have active MyEAN user accounts under the submitted email address. Every presenting author can present a maximum of 3 abstracts. The submission system will alert the submitter if the selected presenting author has already been assigned 3 abstracts.
- Within 1 hour after submission, the abstract submitter will receive a confirmation e-mail with a unique abstract ID. Include the abstract ID in all communication with the EAN Head Office. If you have not received a submission confirmation e-mail, email [email protected]. The abstract submitter is responsible for informing all authors about the stage and status of the abstract. In the submission system, Stage is the stage of submission and Status is status of abstract review.
- Should you wish to correct to an abstract already submitted, email [email protected]. Abstracts that are submitted or in review cannot be edited. After final submission deadline has passed, submitters can no longer modify or correct the abstract's content and the abstract will be published exactly as submitted.
- Once an abstract is accepted, the presenting author must register for the congress. If the presenting author, indicated at submission, does not register to the congress or does not attend the session for which (s)he has been scheduled, a penalty may incur.
- If your research has been granted any commercial or institutional support, you will be asked to list these under Disclosures in the submission process. Please prepare a one-sentence statement for this purpose.
- If you apply for a bursary or for the tournaments basic or clinical, remember to upload the necessary documents. Your application will be only considered if all documents have been submitted and reviewed.
- If your abstract has been accepted as poster presentation, you will be asked to prepare a poster in electronic format (ePoster). Guidelines will follow based on acceptance of your abstract. Presenting authors will present their posters in e-poster sessions during the congress.
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We are delighted to welcome you back to the historic city of Vienna for the 8th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), which will take place on June 25 to 28, 2022!
Our ambition is that the 8th EAN Congress will be a truly pan-European meeting, in a fact the premier meeting of 2022, bringing together neurologists and neuro-scientists to network and to exchange knowledge to tackle major challenges in neurology. In previous years EAN congresses have highlighted the developments in the host nation, but in 2022, following virtual congresses in 2020 and 2021, we will break with that tradition. We have planned a meeting with a pan-European flavor, celebrating the opportunity to meet once more in person in a hybrid meeting that will also maximise virtual participation, building on our experience in 2020 and 2021.
Our common European cultural heritage is rooted in innumerable domains: art, architecture, film, philosophy, literature, and music to name a few. From a historical perspective, we also know that great strides in neurology can be attributed European scientists such as Golgi, Brown-Séquard, and Romberg. The EAN is confident that the scientific contributions of European experts today will continue to shape the field of neurology.
The overarching theme of the 2022 EAN congress is “Getting Evidence Into Practice”. Topics will include: Which clinical trial designs best inform practice? What evidence informs the use of diagnostic tests? Are guidelines a useful tool for improving outcomes? How do we get guidelines applied and implemented? These questions are timely and relevant, and we are excited to hear from selected experts from neurology and other disciplines. As with every year, leading specialists will share the most recent state-of-the-art studies and the newest developments in neurology, and we invite all participants ask questions in the live Q&A sessions.
Participation in EAN congresses continues to grow, making it a world leading congress, and as the EAN Head Office calls Vienna its home, we are glad to bring congress back to this vibrant city!
On behalf of the EAN Board, we invite you to join us in Vienna in 2022 and extend you our warmest welcome. We look forward to seeing you to Vienna!
Claudio Bassetti, Acting President of EAN
Tony Marson, Chairperson of Programme Committee of EAN
