Abstract Timeline

The Abstract submission timeline is as follows:
• Abstract Submissions Open - 31st October 2021
• Abstract Submissions Close - 14th February 2022

Publication - All selected abstracts will appear in full on the Conference website, abstract booklet, as well as in Orthopaedic Proceedings. By submitting your abstract, you give permission for their publication unless otherwise notified.

Submission process - In order to submit your abstract, you will need to register an email address with the Oxford Abstracts system. Once you have done so, you will be taken to a dashboard that will allow you to submit or amend your abstract. Please be aware that some local firewalls may restrict access to the abstract submission website, so if you are experiencing problems, please either try to access the site from another machine or ensure that you have added Oxford Abstracts as a ‘Trusted Sender’. Please enter an abstract of your paper (max 300 words, maximum one figure and/or table is permitted).

For research abstracts use headings:
• Objective
• Methods
• Results
• Conclusions

Research abstracts containing no data are unlikely to be accepted, you must include results unless you are describing a clinical case. Make sure sample size is clearly stated (whether this is number of replicates/test repeats or cohort size).

For clinical cases use headings:
• Background
• Presenting problem or Methods
• Clinical management or Results
• Discussion

Please note that any incomplete abstract submissions will not be considered for review. Abstracts should be carefully checked for spelling, grammar, missing data, blank pages, and any duplications, prior to submission to us. We do not perform any editing on the abstracts other than the deletion of inadmissible material.

• Spelling - For English spelling, if possible use the Concise Oxford Dictionary or The Oxford Dictionary for Writers and Editors. Note, however, the following: - Use “ise” not “ize” spellings.
• Underlining/Italic Type - Underlining, or italic type may be used to stress words or phrases. Latin names should be underlined, or set in italics if available.
• Capitals - Use capitals for proper names, titles, geographical names, trade names.
• Abbreviations - Abbreviations not in common use should be spelled out in full the first time they occur in a typescript, followed by the abbreviation in brackets. - Examples: Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
• Short names (of countries, institutions, honours) and well-known acronyms are abbreviated without full stops and without a space between the letters. - Examples: USA, UK, PM (Prime Minister), ESR, WBC, FRS, BA
• Decimals - 6.9 (point on line), 0.78 (not 78), 1.5), 20 g (not 20.0 g); one-half, three-quarters (in text only)
All abstracts must be completed and submitted before the deadline.

Review and Selection - The review of abstracts will take place in February and March 2022. Each abstract will be reviewed by academics who are experts on the specific topic that corresponds to the content of the abstract. Once all abstracts are reviewed and scored, the highest ranking abstracts will be selected to be included in the Congress programme in free paper sessions. Abstracts selected will either be presented as podium or poster presentations during the meeting.

While we are planning to host a physical event, this is subject to COVID-19 restrictions. In the event that we are prohibited from having a full delegation, we will look to deliver the meeting either as a hybrid or fully virtual event. We would therefore recommend that your podium or poster presentations are adaptable to either a physical or virtual format. Any abstracts submitted that have been published previously may not be selected.

Notification - Abstract authors will receive a notification regarding their submission May 2022 Please be aware that notifications will be sent to the email address of the presenting author. All presenting authors must register to attend the meeting in order to present their abstract as a Podium or Poster presentation. There is no discounted registration rate for presenting authors. Should you have any queries please contact the ICORS Events Team at [email protected]

Dear Colleague,
It is a great honour to invite you to participate in the World Orthopaedic Research Congress (WORC) of the international combined orthopaedic research societies (ICORS) hosted by the British Orthopaedic Research Society (BORS) in conjunction with the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS) and AO Research Institute Davos.
In the tradition of ICORS this will be an international interdisciplinary meeting showcasing the latest musculoskeletal research.
We are also delighted to have linked with other major clinical and preclinical societies to ensure that there is an eclectic range of research presented. In particular, the International Society of Fracture Repair (ISFR) have aligned their biennial meeting with WORC and will have their standalone sessions immediately preceding WORC.
The programme will include plenary and keynote lectures as well as workshops and symposia along with podium and poster free paper sessions. In addition, on each day, one of the lecture theatres will run a clinical 'bridge' session on a topical translational theme relevant to both clinical and preclinical researchers.

The meeting will be held in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland and home of the Scottish Enlightenment. Edinburgh (the hill fort of Eidyn) has been settled since 8500 BC. The Old and New towns of Edinburgh have been designated UNESCO world heritage sites and display a wealth of diverse architecture from iconic castles and majestic monuments to terraced townhouses. Just outside the city, spanning the Firth of Forth is yet another UNESCO world heritage site, the FORTH railway bridge.
Edinburgh has a proud academic heritage in both the arts and science. The tallest monument in the city commemorates Sir Walter Scott an author of the 18th century and recognition of the continuing literary productivity of the city is illustrated by popular walks within the city such as the Harry Potter trail. Edinburgh has a similar illustrious history on the science side with key figures such as James Watt, Alexander Graham Bell, John Logi Baird and James Clerk Maxwell and Peter Higgs.
On the medical side, Edinburgh is home to the oldest medical incorporation in the world, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, recognised in 1505 by James IV, but also home to Burke and Hare, the 'resurrectionists' or grave robbers. The Univerity of Edinburgh medical school is proud of its connections with, James Young Simpson , Joseph Black (the discoverer of carbon dioxide), Joseph Bell (the original Sherlock Holmes) and Joseph Lister (Father of antiseptic surgery) and Ian Wilmut, who cloned Dolly, as well as its graduates that have founded medical schools and universities all over the world including 5 out of the 7 Ivy League medical schools (Pennsylvania, Yale, Columbia, Harvard and Dartmouth), University of Sydney, Sydney Medical School, University of Melbourne Medical School, McGill University Faculty of Medicine, University of Vermont College of Medicine, Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine, the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now part of Imperial College School of Medicine), the University of Cape Town Medical School, Birkbeck, University of London, the Middlesex Hospital Medical School and the London School of Medicine for Women (both now part of UCL Medical School).

Don’t listen to clichés about Scottish weather. With less rainfall than Rome, Frankfurt or New York, your chances of enjoying a crisp, clear day in Scotland’s capital city are good, in keeping with Edinburgh's epithet of the Athens of the North.
The meeting has been scheduled a few days after the Edinburgh International Festival, the largest arts festival in the world, with something to suit everyone's taste. So it is worth arriving early to take in the end of the festival, but if you plan to do this ensure that you book ahead.
As well as the great programme of WORC, Edinburgh has something to offer every one of its visitors from history to culture, from sports, such as golf to shopping, and from food to visitor attractions.

We look forward to welcoming you in September 2022.
Prof. Hamish  Simpson
